YESHIVAT TEKOA

THE STEINSALTZ

YESHIVA IN TEKOA

The steinsaltz yeshiva in Tekoa is a chassidic yeshiva in the spirit of our teacher, Rabbi Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz. The goal of the Yeshiva is to develop Jews who are learned, who serve God, simple Jews who adhere to our ancestral traditions in a lively spirit of devotion.

LEARNING

The main emphasis at the Yeshiva is the study of Gemara in depth and breadth. We want to enable our students to feel at home in the Gemara, develop their analytical abilities and ultimately become learned individuals in the full sense of the term.

Our studies begin with the comprehension of the Mishnah and Tosefta, continue with a careful study of every word and stage of the Talmudic passage, before progressing to the opinions of the early commentaries in a detailed, logical manner. We seek to follow the traditional methods of study, in which the close scrutiny of the language and argument of the Gemara forms the basis for all innovations, without any artificial divide between abstract study and the halakhic world. In addition to their extensive study of the Babylonian Talmud, the students at the Yeshiva also deal with the Jerusalem Talmud in-depth, and to this end they are taught the special methods needed for its study.

HALAKHA

We consider the study of halakha as an essential aspect of the basic Torah education of every Jew. All Yeshiva students devote several hours a day to various halakha programs, corresponding to their age. These programs focus on the study of classic halakha – the primary sources: the Tur, Shulḥan Arukh and its commentaries, as well as responsa and volumes of halakhic rulings. The study of halakha in detail and depth is not a matter for older students alone; rather, it is part of the basic set of tools that is made available to every student of the yeshiva.

CHASSIDUT

A yeshiva is not just an educational institution. It is a type of community, and in our specific case – a chassidic community. Chassidut finds expression at the yeshiva in the intensive study of various chassidic works, the devotional chassidic gatherings that are held frequently, and also in the basic chassidic experience that is reflected in our communal prayers, Shabbat in the Yeshiva, and even secular contexts. Rabbi Steinsaltz comes to the yeshiva once a week; he is the center and the compass by which we try to live out the chassidic ideal of a life of devotion and religious zeal, in the framework of the modern world.

PERSONAL GROWTH

The unique character of the yeshiva can be seen, amongst other things, in our rejection of the Yeshiva as a learning institution that tries to mold people into an ideological framework. Instead, we provide a place that allows them to live Jewish lives: To learn, pray, serve God, and grow in all respects through choice and personal responsibility. We expect each student at the yeshiva to learn and develop because he this is what he wants and has chosen, and out of loyalty to the special character and talents that God has bestowed upon him.

Come and be a partner in the maintenance, establishment and development of the Yeshiva. With your generous donation we can continue to provid  material and spiritual guidance.
